1. May 06,  · Like his previous five albums Early in the Moanin’ is a nice blend of Blues, Funk, and Soul and is full of great songs, such as Crooked Leg, Early Riser, and Can’t Be Helped. JB is seriously the most underrated artist I know of, and I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying his music. Do yourself a favor and buy all his albums.5/5(2).

7. Mar 07,  · The second half of the MCA twofer CD (the "Moanin' in the Moonlight" LP) really doesn't sound too bad at all, although those tracks definitely do sound a bit better on the "Chess Blues" set as well. I am thinking of picking up the Howlin' Wolf "Chess Box" set.

8. Background. This was Blakey's first album for Blue Note in several years, after a period of recording for a number of different labels, and marked both a homecoming and a fresh start. Originally the LP was self-titled, but the instant popularity of the bluesy opening track "Moanin'" (by pianist Bobby Timmons) led to its becoming known by that title.. Music.
